Modelling mass transport within the membrane of direct contact membrane distillation modules used for desalination and wastewater treatment: Scrutinising assumptions

A two-dimensional numerical model for a direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) module, mostly used desalination and wastewater treatment, has been created. This to explore the sensitivity of simulated transmembrane flux water vapour modelled module some commonly-used assumptions simplifications related mass transport in membrane, namely: equimolar diffusion; Knudsen diffusion-free transport; binary gas mixture. The also assess impact slight total pressure difference across membrane. above then evaluated with relatively low high inlet feed temperatures. outcomes have presented, discussed finally summarised.
